Description
The Bondi Reliability, Improvement and Modernisation Project (RIAMP) was a $90 million alliance project for the upgrade of the Bondi STP. The project included modernising and upgrading the fine screens, screenings and grit handling and processing, sludge collection and transfer, hydraulic modifications and all electrical and SCADA systems. The bulk of the works involved in this project were underground in existing caverns which were enlarged as necessary to accommodate new equipment and access. Much of the engineering design relied on 3D modelling to enable accurate representation of the works.
Role
The Alliance comprised Sydney Water, United Group, Walter Construction, CH2MHILL and SKM. Paul Gaughan was a member of the Alliance Management Team with dual roles on the project – initially as Lead Engineer for the screenings and grit and sludge handling areas, in which role he drove much of the 3D modelling work, and later as the Commissioning Manager. In his then role as regional operations manager for CH2MHILL, Nick Read was a member of the Alliance Leadership Team for the project, contributing to the overall project direction.
