Description
Adelaide’s seawater desalination plant under construction by the AdelaideAqua consortium will produce 100 GL per year of drinking water. The project involves intake and outfall tunnels, a seawater pump station, pre-treatment and reverse osmosis and clear water storage. The design and construct JV includes McConnell Dowell and Abigroup as constructors, Acciona Agua for the process design and equipment, United Utilities and Acciona Agua for operations. Hatch-SMEC were engaged as the design JV.
Role
Paul Gaughan and Nick Read were engaged by Abigroup to assist with the engineering design startup phase. Initially, Paul served as Acting Design Director – Balance of Works, and subsequently both Nick and Paul acted as Engineering Managers for different areas of the works. Paul was involved in several process aspects, and Nick was engaged on the civil and in-ground works. These roles involved coordinating design activities among the engineering firms, and managing the internal and external review and verification processes. We also assisted with recruiting and assigning engineering resources for the continuation of the design activities.
